“Excellent natural dog food”
Reviewed 29th March 2016
We have a 1 year old English Pointer and a 9 month old Beauceron. The Pointer was on Skinners puppy when he came from the breeder. The Beau (that's his name!) was on Natural Instinct. I put them both on Millies Wolfheart countryside mix, but theyoon both started to lose weight, so, with Millies advice, I put them on their Ultima mix, but they continued to look half starved. I've now put Beau on Akela original big paws after carrying out much research - Christ there are some brands out there!
Cody the Pointer is still on Millies at the moment because he/they are very sensitive to changes in food, although being that Millies and Akela are both high quality grain free foods, I doubt if a change would bother Cody much.
Beau has quite a strong constitution, so changing his food was no bother at all, he can (and does!!) eat anything, my previous Ridgeback who lived to 15 years old was like that.
Akela Wholeprey is an excellent dog food, and I have no hesitation about recommending it to any dog owner.

“Great food & great customer service!”
Reviewed 25th March 2016
I switched all 3 of my dogs over to Akela after reading the 5* review on all about dog food, they all love it and are doing great on it. One of my competing dogs (agility) had lost some weight on their old food and after a chat with Jackie at Akela she has put weight on, has more energy and is looking so much better!

I have now set up a regular order so I don't even need to think about ordering food and wont run out again!

“Brilliant natural dog food company”
Reviewed 24th March 2016
I have just received my first bag of Akela small paws and I very pleased with the quality and delivery time. My dog is very active and it's hard to find a dog food that she will eat as she is very picky and as a result is hard to keep weight on her. She loves this food. I really love the fact that it is British and has locally sourced ingredients were possible. I will definitely be recommending Akela to my friends.

Swapped my working shepherd from orijen, I like to feed as close to natural as I can, but work him on a reward basis for food so carrying raw food around is impossible. This is as good as orijen but much better on the pocket.

“Akela dog food”
Reviewed 22nd March 2016
I switched my two cocker spaniels and my awesome big italian spinone from James wellbeloved to Akela last week, previous to this they were definitely resisting the James wellbeloved and leaving bowls unfinished! Not usually a gundog trait! Well breakfast and dinner is now a scoffing pleasure, they munch away, clean bowls ,waggy tails and fab poops . I purchased Akela after a massive amount of research as only the very best will do for my precious boys and I can honestly say this dog food is the best.

“Akela 80:20 Original ”
Reviewed 21st March 2016
The dogs (GSD/Collie X & Cairn/JRT X) absolutely love this food and the kibble size is fine for both.

Because of the quality of the food the portion sizes look small, due to the lack of bulking agents and the energy in the Akela. The dogs have no problem with the portion size and have healthy looking coates and are full of energy.

More expensive than the food they used to get, but much healthier food and cheaper than comparable quality foods by £15-20.

The only stockist in my area was 40 miles away, sadly they have gone out of business and the next nearest is over 100 miles away. Happily, Wholeprey offer a competitively priced delivery service, which was fast and efficient.

“The dog loves it”
Reviewed 21st March 2016
I've always thought, "well what can you say about pet food", until I gave my Springer spaniel her first bowl of 80:20 Original dry food and turned to my husband and said "Well she wolfed that down", what better review could there be.
We are working our way through the flavours and she seems to love them equally.
My last order included the selection pack of tinned food. I was surprised at how solidly meaty the contents were but not surprised when she ate it all in one go. I mentioned to my husband that it contained human grade ingredients and he tells me the Kangaroo variety is like haggis without the seasoning!
The cats had a treat this time too, I ordered the tinned food meat variety and fish variety. They are very different, the meat is solid like the dog food, the fish is a much softer consistency but they ate both so I'd be happy to reorder.
It all took a while to come but I ordered just before the weekend and paid the £4 delivery price, knowing I'd got sufficient food already in. I'm very happy with Akela and feel I'm giving my pets the best at a fair price.

“Dogs love this food!!!!”
Reviewed 18th March 2016
Firstly the delivery of the food was quick and well packaged. Secondly as soon as the bags were taken out of the cardboard packaging our dogs could not contain their excitement. They could not wait for the bag to be opened. Never seen so much excitement and anticipation before!! As to acceptability the food is consumed readily, the waste product after digestion is minimal. Another upside to this food is the fact that our cocker spaniel has stopped scratching just a week after commencing his new diet and our Jack Russell who has been on long term medication for allergy related condition is now only having half a tablet a week instead of one every day. We wish we had found this food sooner. The dogs love it and it ticks all the boxes.

We've been ordering for several months now and really pleased with the food. Both our dogs love it! Even I love the smell of it! You can tell it's great quality from the dog poos. So simple to give one food (we use to give wet meat and biscuits with one of our dogs) They can get all their vitamins and minerals from one bag. Happy to continue ordering each month. “Excellent food. Excellent Service”
Reviewed 17th March 2016
Before selecting Akela Whole Prey to feed to my dog I did some research online, to gain independent reviews from other dog owners and also professional opinion of the nutritional content. I used an independent website, created by someone who used to work in the dog food market, to gain professional opinion. The website reviews, nutritionally, pretty much every dog food available in the UK market. Of these reviews, very few dry dog foods get a 5 out of 5 rating. Akela Whole Prey is one of those few. So before ordering I knew I was purchasing a quality food. Question is, would my dog agree? I placed my order, which arrived very quickly (within 2 days). In the past, if I have switched food I would need to mix new with old to get my dog to take it. Not with Akela. I switched her over immediately and she ate with gusto. Over the following days, although my dog has a sensitive digestive system (if you know what I mean!), I could see that Akela very much agrees with her. Nicely formed stools! Quantity of output is reduced too as more of the food is absorbed. My dog and I very much rate Akela Whole Prey!

“Excellent Food A satisfied dog and owner”
Reviewed 14th March 2016
I have not fed a complete dry food for years. Most have vague ingredients which could mean anything what is animal derivatives ? Vegetable origin can mean anything from grass clippings to vegetable waste or something very good. I tried Akela for my dog as the description was precise and listed everything in the bag. As the food is of excellent quality smaller quantities are needed to ensure a satisfied dog. He enjoys the food and I add a little canned meat. Akela also do canned meat which another good thing as it has the same description on the label. Only thing I would like to see is a 15 kg bag, but it might come in the future, no great problem until then.

“A Life Saver.”
Reviewed 13th March 2016
We brought our new puppy home with a bag of another dog food that the breeder stated he had been eating. For the first 3 days at his new home he hardly ate anything: less than a quarter of what his predicted intake. We were worried, but he seemed lively enough and we put it down to an upset in his routine and the stress of moving home.
By day 4 he lacked energy and refused to eat his food save in small amounts from the hand. We had already begun researching food and discovered that what we were offering was decidedly mediocre. We were impressed by the composition of Akela, and its raft of positive reviews so we ordered some.
Thank goodness it arrived. Cooper perked up at the mere smell of it. We mixed it in with his normal food but HE PICKED THE AKELA PIECES OUT. I cannot tell you how relieved we were that he was eating. Despite the advice to switch food gradually we felt we had no choice with Cooper; he was not eating. We went straight to pure Akela original soaked in a little water and he polished off his first bowl without pause.
We are day 3 of Akela now, and our puppy is relishing 3 square meals per day with no sign of tummy upset. He is a boundy, playful, mischievous pup now and we know that Akela is responsible for that.
Buy this food. You've got to try it!

“Fantastic food”
Reviewed 12th March 2016
Bought the small paws original after reading all the great reviews and seeing it had everything I wanted from a food. First of all, I'm thrilled at the cost of this food, it's the same price as most leading brands without all the crap that you find in them. Secondly my puppies love it! They used to race to eat as much food as they could as quick as they can which would end in them being sick, they still eat quickly but seem to digest it a lot better and no retching. The other well known brands of food also make their breath smell, if you hadn't already guessed, they have almost no bad smell to their breath at all with this. Overall I think this food is amazing and I've already started recommending it to everyone.

“Good food at reasonable price”
Reviewed 12th March 2016
We have 2 nine month old Welsh springer puppies who have been fed raw food. However with holiday season looming we wanted to find a dry food alternative, we have tried several . Some were fine but very expensive while others resulted in sloppy, smelly poo. A lot seem to have been produced half way around the world and we would rather have products from closer to home. Now we have found Akela and the dogs love it, their coats are glossy and the poo is similar to when fed raw , firm and not too smelly which makes poop scooping a little less unpleasant., Also, with home delivery we don't have to drive miles to find a premium food and all for a very reasonable price

“Great products and service!”
Reviewed 11th March 2016
We changed our pup, who's almost a year old now, to Akela Wholeprey when she was four months old after it was recommended by a friend. She loves it, especially the Original and Duck varieties, seems very healthy with no digestive issues and it's full of great quality ingredients. The customer service is excellent and orders are dispatched very quickly. The food is well priced and the company now offers free delivery if you buy two large bags of food. We've bought several of the treat products, which are also excellent quality - they seem to sell out quickly so others must think so, too. I'm not easy to please but have recommended Akela to several friends and would recommend anyone to give it a try!

“Akela is fantastic!!”
Reviewed 10th March 2016
We have a large male greyhound who has just turned 3 years old. When we rehomed him he was underweight and was losing the fur on his thighs. We tried various other foods before we found Akela and I have to say it is fantastic! He has put on weight and built up lovely lean muscles and his fur has grown back on his thighs (something which the vet said we could do nothing about as it is a common greyhound issue). His coat is in much better condition – everyone has commented on it. We brush his teeth daily but even so his breath is much better on Akela (no more awful morning breath!!). Also, at the other end his tummy has settled and we don't have so many farts of doom :-) He is a very happy boy on Akela and we are very happy owners! We would recommend this food to all dog owners.

“At last a good dog food reasonably priced”
Reviewed 7th March 2016
Our Labrador Loves this food, she eats it as soon as it hits the dish, nothing new I hear you cry for Labrador's love there food. Well our lovely girl was different, she was a very slow eater, she grazed on other well known dry dog foods and we never seemed to find one that she really enjoyed. We also had a few problems with her having an allergic reaction to some well known brands of food, but could never pinpoint why. So what to do, we decided to try Akela, it has no cereals and only good clearly labelled ingredients so we know exactly what shes eating. Also, its reasonably priced we have at last found a good quality dry dog food that she loves.

Having tried a few different types of food with my 3 dogs, they have proven to be a fussy lot in the past. Not so with Akela, they love it and look fantastic on it. It works out very good value for money and I know I'm giving them a very good quality dry food. Delivery is quick and the food comes in proper resealable bags. I'm so impressed I'm going to try their cat food for my uber fussy cat Sam, aka "The Emperor"!!

“Akela = best dry food going”
Reviewed 4th March 2016
Best quality, price and customer service. My Toller pup Danny loves the duck and the fish in the smallest kibble size. He's 12 weeks old and doing great on a combination of Akela and Nature's Menu wet food. I love the fact that Akela has such a high meat content at a competitive price. The resealable bags really do reseal too, unlike some pet food packaging. I can't buy Akela locally (yet!) but ordering and delivery was easy and fast. I hope my local Brighton petshop will soon be stocking this food but I will still get it online as it's the best dog food going!

Ordered a bag having tried many other foods on a very fussy English Setter and a Working Cocker. The Setter can't get enough of this food and is even protecting his food, having previously just turned up his nose and walked away.

The ingredients are great and their coats are looking super shiny - thank you.

Only downside is the postage, I understand it is expensive to send but most other sites are giving free delivery on dog food.

“Great dog food”
Reviewed 1st March 2016
My dog is a Patterdale X Cocker spaniel who has been suffering with allergies for over a year now. She has also previously had occasional bouts of upset tummy. She is on apoquel and the vet recommended Royal Canin hypoallergenic feed. She was on this for a time but still had the allergic skin condition and I didn't feel the RC was 'natural'. I did some research online and was impressed by the reviews for Akela and decided it was worth giving it a try and we simply haven't looked back. The skin condition has disappeared and she hasn't had an upset tummy since changing. She loves the food and is a happy dog.

Mica is a 4 year old brindle American Bull/Staffordshire Bull/English Bull terrier mix. She suffers from allergies. I love her very much and do my best for her. She is speyed, wormed and deflead regularly. She has two walks a day. It is only right that I feed her the best and that is without doubt Akela. Akela improved Mica's temperament and she is much more settled. Her poos are as I call them 'pickupable'. Mica enjoys eating her food now. Thank-you Akela.

“At last a food that suits!”
Reviewed 29th February 2016
Always difficult with a GSD to get the right food sorted. Zak was previously on Vets Kitchen, and although it was good, something wasn't quite right digestive-wise. I'd taken him to the vets as he was taking ages to do a poo and then was still not happy he had finished. He had been on steroids and the next option was to go on a prescription diet. I met Akela foods whilst at the Suffolk Dog Day and had a good chat and decided to try their grain free food - in fact Zak is on the Fish Feast and I have to say he's back to his normal self. He's been on it now for nearly 9 months and his coat is full and glossy, and he's poo'ing properly and in one place rather than walking around in a circle. Really pleased.

After trying several premium dry dog foods such as Orijien, etc my dog finally accepted Akela big paws as her preferred choice. She has been on Akela for the past 6 months, and seems to enjoy her meals to such a point that if we run out of Akela and try another brand as a subsitute, she turns her nose up and refuses to eat anything unless it fresh chicken.
When the Akela arrives, shes back on it in a flash !!
Her coat is glossy, her stools are solid, and she is a happy dog. I cannot recommend this dog food highly enough, its brilliant !!!

“Top quality dog food ”
Reviewed 28th February 2016
We have a very fusy French bulldog when it comes to eating. Apart from that fact, she was constantly getting red rashes from all food we gave her. And trust me we tried loads (dry food, raw diet, cooked food, etc.) but since moving to Akela, no redness, no itching. Could not believe at first so tested with a second bag and the results were there. Most importantly, she loves it, gets excited every time I open the bag. She loves the new Duck variation, also the threats we got her are proving to be a winner. So happy dog, happy owners, thank you Akela. Last but not least, it's a UK small business so another reason to support the product.

Reviewed 26th February 2016
Our puppy Maggie (a vizsla) is an absolute Hoover and will eat anything, however she does have a very sensitive stomach and other well known brands have resulted in a very fluid stomach and horrendous wind. Akela fish feast was the first food we found that was good quality ingredients, keeps her at a good weight and maintains her regularity with no wind. It's perfect for our dog and I can't see us ever changing. Ordering is quick and easy and the food is always delivered quickly. I'm pretty sure Maggie enjoys it as well as it takes her approximately ten seconds to eat it! I also found the portion size table really helpful while she was growing to make sure she wasn't being under/over fed.
