“Gave our dog upset stomach.”
Reviewed 20th December 2023
When we got our pup from Dogs Trust we was given some Wainrights as this is what he had been eating.
He's had different food and has been OK.
We recently bought a new bag as we thought he's like it
He ate it up and hasn't stopped pooing since.
Don't know what they have done with the ingredients, but it has really given him an upset stomach.
Will not buying this again!!

“Wainwright's changed”
Reviewed 13th November 2023
Our 10 year old Labrador has had this dried food for about 5 years, up until they changed the recipie he loved it, then he seemed to go off it. The last few bags I have bought, they have a plastic smell to the food and he refuses to eat it (he can't eat processed meat as it upsets his tummy).
Our 2 small dogs (6 years) who also loved the old recipie, were changed to Wainwright's meat earlier this year thinking it would be better for them. They started losing weight whilst on it so we added WW kibble back in. They developed sore itchy skin especially around their tails & back legs which they never had before.
I don't know what has happened to Wainwright's but whatever they have added/changed does not agree with my dogs at all.

“Honest review ”
Reviewed 12th August 2023
I have 2 Siberian Husky x Alaskan Malamute x German shepherd dogs, both are quite young, 9 months and 1 year old. I was feeding my first dog Wainwrights and she constantly had diarrhoea and her weight was declining pretty fast, so I changed the food brand and her overall health increased rapidly and she no longer has diarrhoea. On buying my second dog. I fed her Wainwrights as I thought my first just had an intolerance to it, within a week the same thing was happening to her, constant diarrhoea, vomiting and lethargy. On inspection her bowl movements smelled just like her food but with more of a pungent smell. I changed her food too and she’s never been better. I wouldn’t recommend this food to anybody.

“This food has made our border terrier very poorly ”
Reviewed 21st December 2022
Our Boarder terrier has been on this food all three varieties for over 6 years ,at the end of the summer he started being sick we thought it was something he had picked up as after all he is a dog
But this continued all the way up to now on and off we never thought that it could be his food but after realising that this changed Aug Sept of this year and several trips to the vet + blood tests it has now become apparent it is this food.
I thought I would look at reviews and found this site which compounds our theory he has been diagnosed with allergic reaction in his stomach + ears red and inflamed he has not had the runs but is constantly bringing up bile or is sick so he is moving on to Purina Hypoallergenic food from this afternoon. We have been told not to give him any more wainwrights and move on small
Amounts of the new food do not mix it. So we will see but apparently the vet has said it will take him a good month for these symptoms to settle down !
So after reading all these reviews obviously Wainwrights have altered there recipe and not for the better !

“Wainwrights made my 2 Bouviers very ill!”
Reviewed 29th November 2022
Our dogs enjoyed the first 2 bags of Wainwright's Adult Large Breed Lamb, rice and vegetables. After opening a new bag 3 days ago one dog had severe vomiting and the other developed bloody mucous covered stools. By that evening both dogs refused to eat the cubes. An expensive trip to the vet revealed that they were both suffering from gastritis. 3 different vet's smelt the sample of cubes we took with us and all agreed that there was definitely something wrong with the product. Trying to get hold of Wainwrights has proved a futile process. Pets at Home were quick to offer to pay the vet's bill which surely shows that they are aware of the problem. Their lack of response in investigating the problem is VERY concerning!!

“Threw half the bag away”
Reviewed 11th November 2022
We bought this for our for dogs as we couldn’t get our usual brand.
The dog ate it but became incontinent at night, at first we didn’t understand it but when our regular food was available we immediately switched back and the weeing immediately stopped.
If it had only been one dog I would say they were intolerant of some of the ingredients, but all our dog were continually drinking and weeing.
We have thrown the remaining wainwrights away.

“Wainwrights 15kg Bag Making My Dog ill”
Reviewed 20th October 2022
My 7 year old English Springer Spaniel has been happily eating this product for years. At the end of September we opened the new bag delivered back in August, it definitely didn't smell the same as the previous bag.

The dog didn't fuss about the new bag initially, we mixed some with the old bag as normal, he did however quickly get diarrhoea and soft stools for a nearly a week, also he has been sick a few times. A trip to the vet followed.

He has refused to eat anything over the last 2 days. But was happily eating ng his treats on a walk until a few days ago. I've just had a eureka moment, its the Wainwrights dog food. There is something seriously wrong with this food. I have never had any previous problems, this is an unfussy Springer, full of energy. Live Pets At home chat suggested it is because I didn't mix the two together while introducing a new product, but I did. I am really concerned that this product has something really bad in it. I am returning it to the store, requesting it is checked, I have to send them a Vets report too. Be aware.

My dog has been on this flavour for almost a year no problems. But the last bag opened a fortnight ago has made her very ill. Refusing to eat it and throwing up. She is a Labrador, never refused anything in her life. Must be something badly wrong. Will see about it at pets at home.

Something is very wrong with this food!
All of my dogs are refusing or being very picky with it. Made them sick and their poo is runny..

Very worried as to what is now in this food to make all of my dogs so unwell.

“Wainwrights wet Dog food EXTREME Diarrhea”
Reviewed 30th August 2022
I noticed a few other reviews stating the same issue that I am now sadly having to report.
Wainwrights wet dog food has made my dog extremely ill. At first when she suddenly had an extreme diarrhea problem I had no idea what it was. It was so running it was more like a pooh water. She couldnt control it and you can imagine the mess. I immediately contacted the vet, I was instructed to feed her white rice and chicken. The following day the problem had improved dramatically. I kept her on a simple diet as directed for a few days. I then fed her a different dog food to see if that was ok, all seemed fine. I then put her back on the Wainwrights because it was a far better balanced food, as well as being much more expensive. Within 20minutes she had another massive uncontrollable diarrhea episode. I am unsure a simple change of ingredients could have this effect. Its far more likely that their is a chemical cleaning residue getting into the food. Needless to say I have informed Pets at Home as the food is sold exclusively through them and I will be returning all the food to them. I am no expert so this is only my opinion, something is seriously wrong with the production of this food. It needs investigating urgently, my dog suffered significant distress as did I.

“Gone to s**t”
Reviewed 22nd August 2022
Our dog is two now and had previously enjoyed her food. The packaging and food has suddenly changed and now she has the constant runs.
I hope the brand look at the huge amount of similar negative feedback and stop selling this immediately until resolved, with a public explanation. I hope Pets at Home where we purchase this clock onto the problem too.
If it wasn't broken why did they try to fix it? It probably comes back to cost savings, but this doesn't appear to be reflected in the price.
Shame the bags are now plastic too. We have changed dog food now.

“Awful and overpriced ”
Reviewed 12th June 2022
I’ve been feeding my 2 dogs on wainwrights grain free for over 7 years trouble free on any flavour.
3 weeks ago I went to pets at home to purchase my monthly sack of Grain free for my dogs.
We noticed that you had changed the recipe and size and cost of the bags.
For the past three weeks both my dogs have suffered with constant diarrhoea which has been an awful experience for both myself and partner and our dogs.
We dread going out for walks now now as we don’t know when we will had an embarrassment !
I don’t know what you’ve done to the recipe ?
But as it’s meant to be for dogs with a sensitive digestive system something isn’t right.
We will be looking for an alternative now and would like a refund on the product purchased as it’s not fit for consumption .
I look forward to your soonest response and explanation.

“Puppy treats caused wind & diarrhoea”
Reviewed 30th March 2022
Bought a packet of Wainwright's Grain Free Puppy biscuit bone hypo allergenic treats from Pets at Home fir my 16wk staffador. She likes them well enough but they do not agree with her digestion at all, causing terribly stinky farts and diarrhoea 24 hrs after using them for training sessions. We've given her a wide range of off-the-shelf treats and she's never had this problem. There don't seem to be any nasty ingredients in them and I can understand how the Beet extract would cause wind perhaps but the runny stool isn't fun.

“Sick puppy”
Reviewed 15th February 2022
We’ve been feeding our pup on this since 8 weeks old and no issues UNTIL We bought a new bag in late January which she started to refuse to eat and then shortly after had Diarrhea for days. We we’re given hills prescription food to help get her back on track. It worked. Just started to phase the wainwright’s back in today and yesterday and she’s been sick 3 out of 4 meals. It is definitely the wainwright’s causing this and aligns with this change of recipe as we were feeding on an old bag until now. This has cost us loads in vet bills and food bags - I will be writing to pets at home and expecting a refund of the food they’ve sold is seeing as she can’t eat it. Save yourself the money and don’t buy it.

“What is in the dry food?”
Reviewed 10th January 2022
Puppy weaned on Wainwright’s wet Turkey by breeder no problems. He’s a big boy, a DDB so added the Wainwright’s dry to increase calories as he grows. Wow..Non stop flatulence, bouts of diarrhoea, food left in dish. God knows why the addition of dry food caused this. The wet seemed ok but it’s never in stock, expensive and getting annoying to try and source so changed to an online tailor made brand - cannot believe the difference, not one bout of gas since the change, no gravy bum, puppy loves it, food delivered to house and WAYYY cheaper!! Now I’ve read lots of reviews about Wainwright’s making their pups sick.. terrible! This really needs looking into..

“Poorly puppy”
Reviewed 4th January 2022
All the comments on this site are very enlightening. I have a 10 week old mini Daschund ans since we got her (at 8 weeks) she has been feed Wainwright’s puppy food (Chicken and Rice).after only a couple of days she was poorly and started having bouts of diarrhoea (one time with a little blood in it). After visit to vet she was given Promax and put on chicken and rice. Problem cleared up so I put her back on Wainwright’s and problem started yet again, so back on bland food and Promax. I’ve been an idiot because the only common denominator is the Wainrights so I’m taking her off it so her poorly tummy has a chance to clear up. I’m not sure what food to introduce her to slowly, but after reading all these comments many pets have had the same reaction……we can’t all be wrong in our assumptions. I will be writing to Pets At Home and just my little one recovers soon.

“STOP BUYING WAINWRIGHTS FOR YOUR DOG”
Reviewed 8th December 2021
Our 10 year old wheaten terrier has been on Wainwrights for years with no bother, then a few months ago we noticed he was repeatedly having diarrhea with no cause for it.
So we fed him plain chicken and rice as advised by the vet until it stopped, slowly reintroducing his dry food. Only for him to be unwell again days/a week afterwards.
We hadn't linked it to the dry food as he's been on it at least 5 years and had no idea of a recipe change, then I found this page today. It should be taken off the shelves immediately.

I’ve been feeding my jrt with Wainwright wet food, grain free. Only changed to grain free as shelves were empty for regular wet food. However I’m sure the foods is making him scratch his back end, he’s vomited a couple of times too. Vet has sorted anal glands and has no dermatitis or fleas. Is it the food, an allergy to it? Just seen the latest reviews here! Worried ???? what can I give him instead? Any help please!? Thanks.

“Sick pup after eating food.”
Reviewed 10th September 2021
After weeks of back and forth to the vets with my chihuahua puppy, we’ve finally realised it is this food. We initially thought he may have eaten something in the garden, so had him eat a bland diet of chicken and boiled rice. The vet advised we start reintroducing his food back a little at a time, but no sooner had we started back on the food, he was vomiting. He was so ill he wouldn’t move from his bed.
He had been on AVA kibble from his puppy pack with no issues and I wish we’d stuck to that. This food is not fit for purpose and is making dogs sick! I’m disgusted that I’ve effectively been poisoning him with this stuff without realising!! I will be complaining to both Wainright’s and Pets at Home.
