Long live my 16 y.o. chihuahua.
I'm so surprised at some of these reviews. Even though no two dogs are the same I suppose, I myself have nothing bad to say about Royal Canin, both regarding my 16 year old chihuahua and my new puppies (a dax and a chihuahua).
I have always fed all my good girls this food (the dax puppy, the chihuahua puppy, and then the adult version of these), and was always the food the breeders recommended for each one of them, which coming from competent breeders of pedigreed dogs, I happily heed... On occasion I try a bit of other brands, when there's a promotional offer of a free bag or sample, like AVA, Wainwrights, or whatever. I usually mixed them while they last with the Royal Canin, for a bit of a flavour twist. Once in a while maybe I will give them one full bowl of it. The thing is, I trust the brand so much at this point, I really wouldn't take the chance with my new puppies of swapping the food altogether. Not that the other brands ever hurt my dogs, apart from maybe a slightly looser stool, but I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, as they say. My senior chihuahua to this day still passes as a new puppy to strangers. Her coat is immaculate, her vision still perfect, hearing still working fine, legs legging. What can I say? I will trust my beloved doggo children to Royal Canin any time of the day. But that's only my personal experience. I guess u just have to find what work for you if that isn't your case.
