“Akela Small Paws”
Reviewed 14th October 2016
My dog loves all three flavours of the Akela small paws range.

We have noticed that her coat is now much more glossy and soft since switching to Akela back in June last year.

Deliveries are speedy and I feel the food is well priced.

Would recommend.

“Great product and service”
Reviewed 14th October 2016
Very impressed with the food and service from Akela. I wanted to switch my adopted greyhound to better quality food from what she had been given in the kennels and chose Akela based on the reviews and ratings on All About Dog Food. We had some teething problems with a runny tummy but I contacted Akela via the online chat (fantastic service) and was advised to reduce portion sizes which (with a very small adjustment) made and immediate difference and my girl is doing great on it now. We started off with Original Dry and now use Fish Feast Big Paws as it is meant to be even gentler on digestion. All in all fantastic product and service from delivery to support when help was needed.

3 varieties of this intended for puppies. I tried the samples on my cocker spaniel . He awarded them several Michelin stars so I confidently ordered the 1. 5 kg size of each. He continues to enjoy the food.
Helpful staff at the other end of the phone and delivery prompt. A last minute addition to the order posed no problem.

“Empty bowls”
Reviewed 9th October 2016
I was given a sample of Akela at the Royal Norfolk show & the dogs woofed it down. I have 2 labradoodles, one will eat anything! including things he shouldn't, but the other one has always been a picky eater. She will eat a food one day then turn her nose up the next & I had to feed them separately as she takes so long picking through her food the other one would clean up her bowl as well as his own. They have always been on good quality food with no cereals or grain & a high meat content so when I was given the sample the composition wasn't much different to the one they were on so didn't think there would be much difference & I don't like chopping & changing their food as nutritionally there wasn't anything much better than the one they were on.
I gave them some of the food as a treat at the stall & they loved it, I put the rest in my pocket & walked on whereupon the picky one was walking with her head practically in my pocket trying to get more. I mixed a few with her dinner that night & she picked them out & ate them straight away. I decided to buy a bag to try as I'd never seen her that enthusiastic before but was still sceptical as she would eat other foods at first then start leaving them but I knew my other dog would eat it if the worst came to the worst. I mixed it 50/50 with their existing food & again she was picking out the Akela from the bowl. She then went fully onto it & I have empty bowls every meal. She knows what time she is fed & tells me if I'm a few minutes late with dinner.
Both dogs love it & have been on it 5 months now & I wouldn't give them anything else.
Their stools are firm & less than they were & not as smelly. I can't comment on their coats as they have poodle types & there's no shine on them but if the rate it grows is anything to go by they are fine but they have no problems healthwise & when they have been to the kennels even they have asked what food they are as they eat it so well & they have noticed how good their stools are.
They are on the 80/20 chicken & fish for large breeds & I do give them the fish skin treats occasionally. I think it may be the fish that makes it so appetising to them.
It isn't the cheapest food by any means but there is no waste & it goes further than other foods as you do not need to feed so much.
I wish they did a bigger bag than 10kg but you can't have everything.

“Just what my Labrador needed!”
Reviewed 8th October 2016
Our Labrador although very healthy was having trouble gaining weight in spite of increasing the amount of his food. I read all the reviews on Akela and thought I would try it as I liked the sound of the ingredients. So many other dog foods are full of rice and grains. It has worked a treat! Our dog has gained some weight although he still looks nice and lean and his toilet is much firmer. I have just order another two 10k bags so will not be changing. Excellent dog food, I would definitely recommend.

“Unfortunatly did not suit our pup!”
Reviewed 5th October 2016
While the ingredients in the product look 5 star and I'm sure are top quality, no matter how hard we tried with the transition anything close to half a mix with his old kibble gave him the runs.

I have no problems recommending the company and its food everything seems spot on, but unfortunately I think this food is a bit to rich for our 5 month old Shih Tzu Toby. A shame really but will venture onto something with a little less protein.

Puppies can be prone to sensitive digestion. In our puppy packs we include our pumpkin-based digestive aid wet food. I would recommend our new Scottish Salmon recipe which has a single protein source and is gentle on digestion. "Too rich / too high protein" is a myth I'm afraid. In the wild dogs would hunt for prey not carbs.

We changed to this after our dog ended up having watery pooh at the end each time. She is now happy with proper poos.
I would prefer larger bags as once opened they are tipped into a container and the new closing system on the bag is rather wasted!

“Very Pleased”
Reviewed 25th September 2016
I switched to Akela on the advice of my dog trainer who suggested my 1 year old Scottie might be better on a grain free food. After detailed research, Akela seemed to tick all the boxes and he has been on the fish feast for 2 weeks now. He loves it! His coat is very shiny and his poos are much more solid! He already looks leaner and healthier in my opinion. I found the Small Paws sized kibble far too small for him though and he is on the Big Paws version (Scotties have big teeth/jaws!) he still manages to eat it in seconds though! Vey pleased with the food and would definitely recommend it as it offers great nutrition and great value for money.

Perfect food for our Welsh terrier.
As a puppy foods ran through him, then we tried food without rice and that seemed to work. We were using bakers but he used fart and stink a lot. We also felt that e was a bit challenging with his behavior.
We tried Akela and he calmed down quickly, stopped farting and doesn't smell half as bad!
Great food and I have no problems recommending it.

“THE PERFECT DOG DIET”
Reviewed 23rd September 2016
I recently discovered Akela Whole Prey and feed it to my Cocker Spaniel. He loves the dried but I tried the wet cans to mix in with the dried and he goes mad when he sees it. This food doesn't contain carbohydrate and so doesn't swell up in the stomach. So many dried foods for dogs are unsuitable and contribute to bloat
and a lot of dog owners are unaware of this. I wouldn't feed my dog another than Akela; it is the perfect diet for a dog.

“Excellent quality food, dog loves it! ”
Reviewed 22nd September 2016
I changed from Tails to this food and her poos have halved in size, as well as no longer needing to put wet food with it because she loves the taste without it! It has made her breath smell a little but over-all I'm very happy and will keep buying her this food! Happy dog = happy me! She's full of energy but no crazy spurts like she used to have!
I also know that all of the ingredients are considered good for dogs after doing my research so I'm happier that I'm giving her more natural food, without breaking the bank!

Our 5 month old lab/Weimaraner cross loves this food. She is energetic, healthy and is constantly being complimented by the condition and gloss on her coat. The balance of these foods is to an ideals spec, maybe all dog foods should be ....... that's a very important aspect. However, it's wonderful to find that our dog is over the moon with the product! That's a 'win-win' situation. Perhaps they cost a little more but there is NO WASTE and we have the satisfaction of feeling we have done the very best for our hound.

“Well worth a try”
Reviewed 15th September 2016
My two Labradors have always been fed good quality 'hypoallergenic' kibble but following restricted exercise for some months post surgery one had gained weight which would not shift. Thinking lower carb might help, I looked on All About Dogfood for a food which had no grains and found Akela rated 5 stars. The original flavour seemed to cause eye watering wind and rather loose stools in both boys but the Akela Fish Feast is great. The dogs love it, both have glossy coats and look more streamlined with defined muscles; no wind & stools are normal. I like Big Paws as it isn't so easily bolted by hungry chaps and order a box of three sacks at a time, delivered to my door at no charge within a couple of days - no lugging heavy bags home. Good price compared to like products.

“Happy Chaps (and Chapess!)”
Reviewed 15th September 2016
We were very concerned when we hear our "Hellos!" talking about changing our food, we like routine. Then there was this lovely smell coming from a new bag and we all agreed it would be downright rude not to just try a morsel, then we could go back to our routine with our heads held high. Akela is just yummy! And our "Hellos!" keep talking about how our tummies are better and we have lovely shiny coats...what is a coat? Anyway, we digress, we love our new food, and we are happy to be in a routine with it, and if our "Hellos!" ever talk about changing, we have decided that we will most definitely not speak to them ever again. “Perfect for our whippets!”
Reviewed 14th September 2016
No food we've tried keeps weight on one of our whippets like Akela! If you feed our whippets more to try and get a little more meat on them they just poo more... This isn't an issue with Akela though! To be honest they'd probably eat whatever you put in front of them but they love the fish feast flavour, nice firm poos, beautiful coats too! They need less food so it works out quite cost effective compared to other foods. Nice to support a UK based company using high quality ingredients. Delivery fast and convenient too. Wouldn't use anything else!

“Skin problem solver! & Hair restorer!”
Reviewed 13th September 2016
My 2yr old Dog was in a bit of a mess bless him, literally... he had severe dry skin - suffered baldness on his ears, flanks & back & had a highly sensitive stomach. I tried varying lotions & potions, frequented the Vets, tried a fair few high end dried foods with no effect. Tests/Medication/Steroids were going to be the next step, but I got recommended Akela...wait 6 weeks for a result they said - OMG, 4 weeks in his hair was clearly growing back in, by 6 weeks his skin was near clear. I've been using it for approx 5 months now & he has the healthiest coat ever! His stools are less frequent & firm - he's perfect with no (fingers crossed) complaints. I also now buy the Fish Treats which are great. 5 Stars all the way from this Pooch's Mam.

“Absolutely five stars!”
Reviewed 9th September 2016
My Border Collie has recently been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and arthritis, and I decided to change his diet to a better, grain free, low carb one. I chose Akela because it ticks all the boxes for us. We started with Fish Feast, he loves it and already lost some excess weight on it. My new dog, a spaniel, eats it too, and is gaining weight, which is desirable as he is very skinny. So: one food, two dogs with different needs, and a very happy owner! I would recommend it to anybody.

Transitioning to Akela resolved Poppy's fussy eating. She has mostly original but with some Duck or Fish for variety and she eats all that is provided with relish.
I was concerned about the online only supply but they have proven consistently reliable and very prompt. Also Akela respond to phone and email and I hope they manage to maintain such good service levels if they become more widely recognise for the quality of their product and service offering.
Looking at the ingredients it is obvious that Poppy enjoys a much better and balanced diet than me!

“My Springer Loves it”
Reviewed 6th September 2016
As owner of young Springer I was very concerned that he had a dry food that gave him all the nutrients he needed, without fillers etc. He's been on this since about 11 weeks old and he loves it. He is in beautiful condition and is growing well, with excellent bone and muscle growth. I love the fact that there is no rice or grain, all meat is human quality and all vegetables are organic. Its also Hypoallergenic which I like. I am concerned about the level of chemicals and fillers in many foods so I love the fact that Akela is natural. I like the fact that this food is developed in accordance with a dogs "natural" diet in mind. I would definitely recommend it wholeheartedly, plus it is noticeable cheaper than other premium kibble. My one note of caution is the level Calcium and Phospherous. WholePrey assure that it is within legal limits and the need for smaller portions sizes means it is not that high. While I would be happy to see it reduced, I shall continue to use it, but take care not to overfeed him. However, my dog is in superb condition with no dietary issues at all so I am very, very happy. The high protein diet does mean he's a bundle of energy, but he is a Springer after all!! Top marks from me.
