“Gradually increasing the ratio”
Reviewed 4th September 2016
I was concerned that my two dogs - Martha a retired racing greyhound and Jethro a rescue creature from Cyprus - weren't getting the right nutrients from their food and was considering changing to a raw diet. I discovered Akela at the Ragley Game Fair and ordered some. Martha and Jethro are enjoying it and my aim now is to get them to have 75% Akela to 25% wet food. My only issue is having to have it delivered but having said that, the delivery is always prompt and exactly on time.

“Both my boys love this food”
Reviewed 3rd September 2016
Wonderful, nutritious food, and on par with price compared to similar foods. I have 2 GSDs, 1 is 10 the other 7 mths, both love it. Before we tried this, my old boy could take or leave food and wasn't really bothered, now, I have a clean bowl every meal. Lovely helpful staff too. Cannot recommend this highly enough. Definitely 5 paws.

My bassets love this food and they are both in fantastic condition. Only reason for not giving it 5 * is the price. Wish it was a bit cheaper or that there were more special offers going, otherwise I cant complain.

“I would have said amazing, until 3 days ago”
Reviewed 2nd September 2016
My dogs used to be on wainswright and they always seemed to have 'off' days when going to the toilet. When they then also decided to go on strike and stopped eating that specific brand for whatever reason (likely to stress me out) I decided to research what would be better on their stomachs and this one had 5/5 on allaboutdogfood.co.uk ( I think it used to be Which?). Anyway, all the other 5/5 were a good £20 more expensive, I was slowly giving up until we came across this one. It doesn't break the bank, they started eating again right from putting this in the bowls and their stomachs were better. One bag lasts my 40kg german shepherd and 14kg cocker spaniel approx 11-14 days.

All in all, i'd like to say it's good, but for the past 3 days they've stopped eating again, i'm hoping that maybe this is just a bad batch so they're turning their noses up.

“Excellent Dog Food! ”
Reviewed 1st September 2016
We tried the raw food diet with our Samoyed puppy but after a month or so she went off it completely. Instead we chose Akela WholePrey because of the high nutritional content and also value for money. It's no frills but Maya loves it! She eats the Big Paws size in both fish & the original food. We even use it as treats on a walk, for training etc, and after 10 months, she still loves it. Would highly recommend for fussy eaters!

“Excellent - our Goldendoodle loves it”
Reviewed 31st August 2016
our 4 month old Goldendoodle, named Kat, loves it. The breeder recommended BETA as continual food for 2-4 months. We noticed that Kat didn't like even after her adjustment period. We resorted to fresh chicken, but were worried that she may not get all the nutrients for a growing puppy. Came across Akela after many nights of Google searching. Bought a batch and Kat liked it from the very first meal. No more leftovers, no wet poop, and now one happy naughty puppy. Kat's hooked.

I saw the Akela stall at a show and decided to try it for my two Briards. They love it always an empty dish. I mistakenly ordered small paw by mistake instead of big paw but no problem they love it. I have thought about trying wheat and grain free food before as it seemed nearer a natural diet, it works. I am keeping my girls on the good

“Small Paws Dry- perfect for small dogs”
Reviewed 29th August 2016
I spent a long time researching dog food before and after I got my pup. Good quality wet food upsets his stomach (and I've tried a few). Most of the available kibbles are too big for him (he's a small dog) and I was fed up of buying bags for him to try and either he didn't like it or the pieces were too big. Akela are one of the few companies I found that you could get small samples from. I ordered all 3 flavours, the Original and Fish were a big hit- strangely he wasn't a fan of the Duck one. Since changing onto the food his weight is perfect, he has bags of energy and no more upset stomach. Last time I ordered I got some Fish Training Treats too. Think he'd walk over fire to get to them :)

“Akela dog food 80/20”
Reviewed 25th August 2016
I turned to Akela food for my Alaskan malamute who has had constant problems with loose stool movements since a puppy. Have tried eukanuba , wainwrights hypoallergenic with no real results. Even in the mixing stage of introducing Akela to his diet he loved it but more importantly his stool firmed up straight away . He has put on some great weight which was needed as he wasn't getting the right level of nutrients from the other food due to his constant loose stool . His coat is thick and glossy. i Would highly recommend this food to anyone who asks and trust me with the noticeable change in him since he has been on this food , everyone is asking. The service is amazing and the food is delivered within 48 hours of ordering with a text letting you know what hour of the day it will be delivered. An amazing product with an amazing service to match what more could you or your dog ask for.

“Excellent Customer Setvice”
Reviewed 13th July 2016
My Chorki poo is on a raw food diet, so I was thrilled to discover this food for dogs being available in small packs and small size chunks. A bit picky, she loves it! Started off using as treat, then as I ordered more different flavours and realised that it could be used with raw food, Molly has blossomed.
Recommend it to all who have fussy eaters and owners who want the best for their dog, cos it is!

“Great food for my very fussy dog and 3 cats!”
Reviewed 13th July 2016
My JR cross is a very fussy eater and not food motivated at all. We have tried so many different brands of dried dog food and wasted ££ having thrown/given food away. After reading reviews I sent for a sample of Small Paws and she loved it First time ever in 4 years she finished a bowl of food!
We have also now feeding our 3 cats with Akela cat kibbles and they are thoroughly enjoying it. The 18 year old has a lovely shiny coat and is full of beans!
So glad we found Akela

“Perfect sub for raw”
Reviewed 13th July 2016
Due to rapidly running out of freezer space for 3 cats and 2 dogs' worth of raw food, we had to reluctantly move our furry family onto a dry food instead. After trying another online brand without success, we were recommended Akela by a co-worker, who got the recommendation from her puppy trainer friend. Our pups LOVE the food, they really can't get enough - especially the sweet potato and fish treats, a bag lasts forever and they really work for them. Our pups poos have improved (although wind is still stinky!) and their fur is lovely and soft again. Highly recommended! Our cats also adore the food (even the calico who is usually a bit picky with dry). We plan to try the new chicken treats and maybe invest in some antlers on our next delivery - I'm sure the horde will be thrilled!

“Proper good stuff.”
Reviewed 10th July 2016
I have a very picky shihtzu and a plump-ish guzzly Labrador pup. I have really struggled to find a good that both will eat and enjoy and is good for them. This is it. They wolf it down, it lasts for ages because it's such good quality you don't need yo feed in vast amounts and above all it looks like it's really doing them some good. They both look great, tons of energy, better breath and do smaller poopies. I am delighted.

“I can keep the weight on with this food”
Reviewed 4th July 2016
I have a labrador/greyhound cross whose metabolism is so fast that he can virtually lose weight while you look. I tried Eden (various fancy names for the food) and had to feed nearly double the recommended amount to keep up. Their after-sales customer service was virtually non-existent and distribution chain nothing special, so I tried Akela. At the advised amounts the weight stays on, his coat positively gleams and he is even happier than before. With Eden and most other foods he had wind, which did not always make him the best company, but again with Akela this has stopped. One thoroughly satisfied dog and I am relieved to have found the right food at last.

Fantastic product. I have a medium sized dog which I have always cooked for and who is really fussy with commercial dog food however your Suffolk duck was throughly enjoyed by "Charlie" and I believe went down so fast I do not think it touched the sides. I have read your ingredients list and approve so would like to stock up on your products. Well done for producing a good quality product. Thank you

“Great”
Reviewed 30th June 2016
Feed this to my Labrador pup, being a lab I don't have a problem with him being fussy but I wanted to know he was getting the best food I could give him. He loves this and I noticed a big difference with how much better his toilet was and how much less he was going when I switched him to this. I feed the fish feast version and he always gets comments about his glossy coat which I'm sure in part is due to this !

“My fussy dogs love it...”
Reviewed 20th June 2016
Our dogs are fed raw food, but since quitting work we are set to have a lot of holidays with our two dogs, which often presents a food problem. So we've been hunting for a top quality tinned dog food that a) our fussy dogs will eat, and b) that we have confidence in feeding our dogs with knowing that they are getting excellent nutrition. Akela fits the criteria perfectly and has proved a massive 'hit' with both our dogs. Their coats look great and their toilet is firm. Delivery was quick and buying 36 cans resulted in a huge saving! Brilliant Food!

“Hurrah for Akela! ”
Reviewed 17th June 2016
Well done Akela on making such a high quality dog food at such a reasonable price! My chihuahua puppy was on another high quality (but very expensive!) brand of kibble that she completely went off eventually. when she was on it-it seemed like her whole mission in life was to steal human food! Now with Akela small bite, she's finding it easier to tackle the smaller kibble size and isn't so bothered about what we are eating! She loves the fish formula and has a beautiful coat and better digestion too. Im going to order some Suffolk duck for her to try next. .

“Hurrah for Akela!”
Reviewed 20th May 2016
We have a 14 year old Yorkie who had to have all her teeth removed last summer. We struggled with numerous high-quality wet foods but didn't like the idea of feeding her 85% water from a tin! She also seemed to be deteriorating on tinned food. We sent for a sample of Akela and was amazed by how she loved it. and she is now thriving on the Small Paws duck variety. The transformation in such a short space of time is wonderful. Her eyes are bright, she is lively and enjoying life again.
In addition to the Yorkie, we also have a 16 year old Standard Poodle who adores this food and is now almost puppy-like for her age.
The transition from their old diet to Akela was instant, we didn't need to introduce it over several days as we trusted the product so much.
Just wish we could buy from somewhere local but having said that it was simple and fast to order from their website. Customer service was excellent too.

“Best food ever”
Reviewed 13th May 2016
I was advised by an acquaintance on Facebook to try this food. My lurcher has a skin allergy and our labradoodle can have a funny tummy. I kept getting advised to feed raw but I don't have the room for storage and am abit sqeamish with offal and the like. I was advised this was the next best thing. I have to say I am very impressed. I have been feeding this for about a month and this is the best for we have ever tried. Both dogs love it and have had the best switch over ever no funny tummies. Bessie's skin is already looking better and Floyd is very settle on it. Ordering is very easy and when I had some questions the customer service was excellent. The price is very reasonable as well. I would advise everyone everyone to try it. If you do I guarantee you won't go back.

“Superb food”
Reviewed 13th May 2016
I had been looking for another good quality dog food for some time as my collie x gets bored of food quite quickly. Having found, Akela, however, she has happily eaten it for the last year and is still really enjoying it. She is almost nine, but shows no signs of slowing down and has excellent coat and teeth, plus good poos which is always a bonus. One thing which is rarely mentioned with regard to dog food, is the welfare of the animals that go into it, something which should be very high in importance for animal lovers, and Akela contains no intensively reared meat. This really is an excellent food of the highest quality which I would, and frequently do, recommend to anyone.
